Lollipipe candy: Introducing kids to drugs

By admin | June 11, 2009

Written by Black Entertainment USA

Of the many products I have seen over the years, I have run into few that are as exploitative and potentially dangerous as the Lollipipe. And when I say dangerous, I mean promoting drug use in minors. When I say exploitative, well just read on.

Images of the Lollipipe candy and packaging that I feel is directly targeted to children.

The Lollipipe is the invention of Kzee Novelty Products LLC. It is marketed as a tobacco pipe, but the shape of the product makes it clear that it is intended for marijuana. Add to that the fact that it is sold exclusively, to my knowledge, in “head shops” – places that sell drug paraphernalia under innocuous names.

The Lollipipe is designed in bright playful colors that will attract the youth. It is also designed with flavors like Watermelon, Green Apple, Grape, Strawberry, Peach, and Blueberry. Again this is a marketing trick that targets the youth. It has a claim that the Lollipipe will not melt from flame being applied to it. It is completely edible.

Images of the Lollipipe candy and packaging that I feel is directly targeted to children.

Thus in effect we have a product that targets young teens or even smaller children. It is designed to make them feel like drug-adled adults and/or cool. It will give them the sugar buzz that all kids love. And while hard to purchase, in some places, it is not illegal. Add to that the ability for the product to be consumed, so as to hide its use from even the most attentive parent.

I am disturbed by this product. I am reminded that the Tobacco companies were sued for tens of billions of dollars to advertising and marketing programs that never dared to go this far. Yet I have not heard one word about this product.

IF colorful packaging is enough to cause the Tobacco companies to lose in courts, this product should be at the top of DEA and consumer boycotts. Yet I doubt most parents even know of its existence. In fact, I bet there are more than a few liberals, and/or those in the hip hop community, that think it’s a great idea.

This must be a huge hit with those that want to legalize drugs. I guarantee that your local drug dealer likely has dozens of these Lollipipes that they are giving out to kids in playgrounds across the country. Yes, even your kids in the suburbs and small towns where you might not think there is a drug problem. Yet. But the Lollipipe is a great introduction into a life of drug addiction.

I can only imagine what will be next from this company. Maybe a Peppermint flavored crack pipe? How about an edible syringe? Heck, why not a kid-sized mini meth lab.

Obviously there is a market for this product. Irresponsible parents and family of infants/children that are given hits of drugs as seen on Youtube and the major media will flock to these products in droves. Word of mouth will likely fill elementary schools. Hey, do you think pedophiles will stock up on this stuff too?

What a way to make a buck.

This is disgusting. It is my fond desire to learn one day that Kzee Novelty Products LLC has failed and become bankrupt. If there is anything I might be able to do to help this company fold, I will surely do it. Because there is nothing that is positive about their existence in my opinion.

By the way, their website is not yet done. They currently have a static image of their product – tastefully packaged to provide as little direct knowledge of the contents as possible. And just to make sure they are capturing as wide an audience as possible, the company promotes the product on their joke of a webpage as “Eco-Friendly”. I am sure that global warming fanatics will be happy to add this company among the roster of those touting change.

I cannot think of a better warning right now than what I have already mentioned. But I would love to hear from anyone that would defend this product. And I will be sending a copy of this post to Kzee. I wonder if they will have the balls to respond?

You’re an idiot and clearly you’re looking too far into things.
Like mike stated above, they’re only sold in headshops, so what child is gonna hop in there and buy one? And also, hellllooo stoners love candy. It’s clearly marketed toward novelty obsessed stoners like myself, not kids. And if I a kid were to get a hold of it, they would be too excited to have that thick of a lump of sugar in their hand that they wouldn’t even notice what it’s shaped like. Besides, it’s an ecofriendly way to get your smoke on.
Try not to be so serious, what are you, larry king or something?

I think that whoever wrote this is upset because they have shoved one too many of these canydy pipes up their butt. “This must be a huge hit with those that want to legalize drugs. I guarantee that your local drug dealer likely has dozens of these Lollipipes that they are giving out to kids in playgrounds across the country.” You are so dumb.

To the writer of this article:

You must be living life in your own small little bubble…. The type of person who homeschools their children.

Its just candy. Its just a pipe. Its just marijuana. The product is being sold in headshops only - not to kids.

    Get a life.

I hope the AUTHOR has the balls to respond to the comments s/he will he receiving…

    1. NOT promoting drugs to minors. You think they flash billboards of this all around cities. You think they sell these in your local CVS right next to the Hershey bars? No, they are sold in, as you said, head shops. If you did your research (a simple walk to your nearest head shop), you would know that no person under 18 is even allowed to step inside. Yea, infants being turned to drugs….

    2. You know, I see children shows portray kids riding bikes. This must be a marketing scheme to get kids to try dangerous things like riding bikes (do you know how many kids are killed each year on bikes? Its well over 10,000 a day, according to my knowledge)

    3. Who the **** would stock these in their homes and sell them to kids? What, do regular people just sell regular candy to regular kids on the street?

    4. The marijuana community seriously believes in the benefits of smoking (or ingesting) marijuana. We also believe that what we decide to do with our bodies is our own problem, not some nutjob who sits in Starbucks all day ranting about a ******* candy pipe. Hey, the guys who made these? I bet they’ve got a nice living, smoking weed, having a good time…. Laughing, that’s something I don’t think you get to do all that much, judging by how much you hate everything.

I’d love it if you grew some balls of your own and responded to this, or better yet, just take a hit and chill out.

    James,

Yet another person who cannot read what I have written in repsonses to comments about this post. Nor did you bother to read my blog which answers every point you made, without the need to use vulgarity which was the only thing edited in your comment. James, don’t try to goad me with the same quasi-logical arguements that dozens have tried to use before. And please pay attention (I know, the smoke must be in your eyes), my name is Michael Vass not author.

I will say that I am glad you had the balls to put your name on the comment. As you can see (if you bothered to check), my name is on everything I have done, just do a search in any major search engine in the world.

I love the presumptions you and others have made. The swell of protests of this post have focused on me, assuming something must be wrong since I do not have a weakness that requires me to indulge in illegal drugs. The comments tend to infer aspects of my lifestyle, and/or background, without a clue to facts. It’s really quite funny.

Suffice to say, I have covered this in multiple posts (discussing this product and illegal drug use) and responses to comments. I stand firm on my belief that this is a bad product that is targeted to children, and promotes drug use. And I continue to hope that this company goes bankrupt.

Beyond that, I really am bored responding to the same insults, dumb promotion of illegal drug use, and sloppy logic on this post.

**Oh as a side note, there is a saying that profanity is the result of a mind that is so limited in its vocabulary (and thus thoughts) that it cannot find any other words to use. I tend to believe that, especially in reference to people defending this product.**

well…i think the idea is great, not the tastiest but pretty great.and especially useful because i would be able to smash it against the sidewalk/wall in case the cops are around the corner.and the homeless people will scurry to the area and eat all that shit up right on the spot, and get high as hell, you see, its an eco-friendly circle.lol
    oh
and i LOVE headshops and smokeshops, glory to them
GLORY TO THEM ALL, especially to the ones that dispense medical cannabis for those who need it most. those people may have cancer, glaucoma, insomnia and all kinds of other horrible sicknesses and diseases ,but at least they get to smoke the most powerful bud on this continent. “medical” lol

oh and im going to laugh my ass off when i go on google images and serch up black entertainers (like lets say lil wayne for instance) and see them at a sold out arena puffing on a lollipipe and then you will TRULY know that there is no hope of keeping these out of kids hands.
they are perfect for todays trends. they are all colorful and fruity ANd to top it all off it can be used for drugs so its going to FLY off the shelves if that EVER happens hahahaha , mwahahahahaha , look i am only saying that once anybody in entertainment picks up a lollipipe theeeeeeeeeeeeeeen the kids will start picking them up but for now you shouldnt worry. lastly i doubt drug dealers would but them and resell them because who wants to go to jail for selling candy to kids?? they are too expensive for resale too i would think. its like almost $20 for one. and if you dont have a medical marijuana card and have no access to dispensaries then you have to order them a online and just tell me…what child or hell even teenager do yOU know…that has a visa card..

WOW…this was one of the most HORRIBLE articles ive ever read in my life…where should we start. First off, how does the shape of the product mean that it is more intended for marijuana than any other pipe…im sure at LEAST 90% of pipes sold in headshops are used for marijuana, wether they be glass, metal, or even the old wooden “tobacco” pipes, hardly anybody uses a pipe for tobacco anymore. And who cares if marijuana is illegal? Your pretty dumb if your gonna let the government make up your mind about what you can and cant do. Marijuana is an incredibly safe drug (safer than tobacco) many presidents/politicians/athletes have admitted to smoking it. and George Washington even grew it. Theres a big difference between a weed pipe and a crack pipe let alone a heroin needle…come on now. And drug dealers HANDING THEM OUT on playgrounds…i dont even have to cover that one, anyone can see how rediculous that is. most ppl who sell weed wont even sell it to kids because its too big of a risk, and you think theyre gonna go on SCHOOL PROPERTY during recess and just start handing these out, and expect all the kids to come knockin at their door after school wanted to buy bags of weed? And like many people have said before me, the only place this will be sold is a headshop, where you have to be 18 to enter…so the only way a kid would see one of these..other than a friend over 18 getting one and smoking with them, is articles JUST LIKE THIS…a few more of these will really help their business get off the ground. Im sure Kzee Novelty Products are thrilled with all the free advertising youve given them. Im sure im not the first sale youve made for them, but im definitely one of them. NOBODY has used this idea yet, its very unique. If i see these at the headshops…im buying two, if theyre not there, then ill buy some online, it would be pretty fun to blaze a fat bowl and then be able to eat your pipe, GENIOUS. TWO THUMBS UP LOLLIPIPE.

Im not led by a damn thing…the only thing that leads me is my own personal research and beliefs. You my friend, are the one who is being led, allowing the government to brainwash you of the “dangers of marijuana”. If marijuana was harmful to the body, i wouldnt be using it recreationally, hence the reason i dont partake in other drugs, including tobacco. Do you not realise that in many states its been legalized for MEDICINAL PURPOSES, thats because theres so many great ways marijuana can help people with life threatening illnesses such as aids, cancer, asthma, just to name a BARE minimum. I will get what a deserve, a happy, fulfilled life with a loving family, girl, and son, all is well down my road.

    Donavin,

Honestly, good for you. But don’t fall for the dellusion you are not being led, or that you are not a drug addict. There are indeed lots of medical uses for many things, but that’s not why you are using it is it? And the dangers are facts that I have observed over my lifetime, not scientists or politicians for or against anything as the whims of the public shift.

But my post is not personal, nor am I really talking about you. I am speaking to those like you. And inevitably the end result is overwhelmingly the same. No matter how much an addict will proffer other theories.

Though I will ask one question. If this drug is so natural and good, when will you provide your children with it?

you are so dumb no drug dealer i know would ever go buy these candy things to hand out to kids ever. so if you are saying that these are made to get kids to smoke weed then your ignorant becuase you are saying it is just as bad as candy cigars which are just small little white candy sticks. so before you think something like this is trying to introduce young children to drugs you need to sit down smoke a bowl and think about it a little harder.

  19. Bryson Says:
    November 12th, 2009 at 8:53 pm

Ok I got about half way when I decided you are an idiot, although this might be made by people wanting to legalize marijuana it is not targeting kids to start them smoking at a younger age, or for young teens who “want to feel cool”. You are just an ignorant jackass that thinks marijuana is a drug. Let me give you a lesson chief. Drugs have to be altered a couple ways before being called a drug, marijuana is just grown as a plant, and that fact that one day a man or women set it on fire and discovered that it can get you high doesn’t mean that it is a drug. Candy companies are just getting bored with themselves and want something else to do, thus this invention, if they wanted to target kids to start smoking the ad would go something like this. “Hey kids want to feel cool? Want to be like the older kids on the block? Then try the LOLLIPIPE. Just like the teens in that broken down house at the end of the block, smoking out the that glass pipe. You can smoke out of it then you can eat it so your parents and cops don’t find it.” You are so dumb. And by the way people have come up with a lot better ideas to get kids smoking at a younger age that some stupid candy pipe idea, I can’t beleive someone could say what you just said. I will tell you I smoke weed, I have since I was a Sophomore in highschool, and now as a Junior, the only thing that got me smoking was peer pressure and being around it all the time, not some stupid ass candy pipe idea. If I were an only child and weren’t around it as much, I wouldn’t want to get started by some candy thing made up by a company that had a good idea. And how dare you go after people like liberals and people in the “hip hop” community, that is just racist, and narcissistic, you sound like one of those people who is all about no drugs, no alcohol, no bad things, go to church every sunday, worship the higher power. And another thing, there is no ingredient in marijuana that is adictive. Let me give you another lesson. There are two types of addictions, mental, and physical. Mental are the people who think they need to drug. Physical is an actual addiction like the one you get from smoking cigarettes when you get the nicotine in you. You know you’re lucky you live in a country where you’re free to say what you want when you want because we have a semi good government that isn’t full of a bunch of power hungry idiots. Now i’m just going to end this so I can let you reply and see what you have to say so I can see if you are any more of an ignorant jackass. And finally about what Cnice said, she has the freedom to do that, if the kid doesn’t want the blunt the kid won’t take it, it’s called being experimental, I will admit with my own kids I would wait till at least 13 to see if they would want to try it and whatever they wanted to do from there is their own decision.

    Bryson,

First, as you stated you are a child, so I’m not that surprised by your response. But perhaps a grown man might help you a bit when you want to inform someone. Generally it helps if you know more or specifics that will benefit whomever you are speaking with. I guarantee that a Junior in high school (or even college) does not know more than me on this subject. Sorry. And I might have taken your comment far more seriously if you had the ability to say your thoughts without vulgarity, which only infers a weakness of the mind.

But let’s start with the important part. Giving minors drugs, whether your own or someone else’s, is ILLEGAL. And it is a crime for a reason. If you are an adult and want to screw up your life, that is one thing - not that I want to provide any help in that. But a child should be prevented from harm from idiots that would do things like this or worse.

Another thing, perhaps it’s because I’ve lived longer but I’ve seen the net results of drug use in hundreds of people over decades. Marijuana may not kill, but the quality of life I have observed is far less with than without. Like anything detrimental, it catches up with you over time. And Marijuana is psychoactive, not physical you are correct. It alters the way the mind works, in both subtle and long-term manners. Why would anyone want to damage their mind with a long term effect?

By the way, it is not just a plant. It is a plant that is process like anything else. In fact worse since if you buy it from a drug dealer you have NO idea what was done to it. Additives including cocaine, PCP, various household chemicals and several powerful industrial ones are often used to “enhance” weed. Why do you think they call it “Chronic”. Which takes the “all natural” thought and throws it out a window.

As for your hopes to learn about my life, read my bio. It should make many things clear. As for being a racist, that’s funny. You obviously have never read my writing besides this post. By the way, how exactly is it racist to highlight the negatives that exist in the Liberal and hip hop commuities? Or are you saying that only minorities are the whole of both groups? And if you are saying that, which is really the racist-leaning statement?

If you really would like to know about politics, go to http://www.mvass.com . If you really want to talk about the benefits of freedom and what it took to get that freedom, first join the Marines as I did and my family has done. When you get back from serving our nation I think you will have an appreciation of the nation that will really make things clear. If you are unwilling to do that, well then live for another decade of so, and then speak with me about the subject.

Lastly, I’m sorry to hear that you are so weak willed that you decided to alter your mind and break the law just because someone else did or told you to. I fear what other crimes and failures might be ahead for your life if you don’t learn to make choices for yourself based on thought and understanding of the consequences. And yes, the lollipipe is just like peer pressure, a means to get weak-willed individuals to smoke weed.
